Bits and Bobs (still in lockdown)

Friday, May 15, 2020

It's been a while but the days are all blending together.  It's like living out the movie Groundhog Day, with no end in sight.  We wake up when we want, we learn/teach/zoom our schoolwork, we try to get out in the fresh air (socially distanced, of course) and we watch altogether too much t.v. before going to bed. And then we do it again the next day.  We still have no contact with friends or family because as of this writing, we are still locked down pretty tight.  Nothing is open unless it is essential, though what they deem essential is sometimes a bit head-scratching.  Many other states have opened up to Phase 1 but here in Florida we happen to live in one of the two counties that are still locked down.  But it won't get us down and we continue to try and have some fun along the way, which is keeping us from losing our minds...

Since we are spending a lot of time in the pool, I got the girls a slide.

Using this photo as a guide, we watched all of the Marvel movies in the order that they happened (not in the order they were released).  Some we had already seen but it all tied together so much nicer when seeing them this way.

MadHatter has always wanted to have ice cream from an ice cream truck that drives through the neighborhood.  Thanks to great neighbors, her dream came true!

Stinkerbell wrote this for inclusion into a book that was being sent to healthcare workers in New York and New Jersey.

Broke the little toe in two places by not judging the distance from the chair leg to my foot.  3 weeks in a not so stylish shoe it is.

Cinco de Mayo Zoom call with the family.  Beer and guac was necessary on a Tuesday.

I had not been in a grocery store for almost 2 months but finally decided to brave it to see if I could get some much-needed items (flour, yeast etc) that never seemed to make it to me if I did online ordering.  It is a new normal, for sure.  One way aisles, one person at a time in the aisle and 6 feet of distance at all times.

Bespoke masks for the girls - Stinkerbells is unicorn kitties and MadHatters is dinosaurs.  They now have new ones that I made that have the animals facing up instead of sideways.  You learn as you go.

Proud to be a part of this group!  We make thousands of masks and give them all away - they will never be sold!  Doing what I can...

I entered the photo contest for the second time this year.  Let's see where I fall out of the over half a million (!) photos entered.  Results in about 6 weeks or so.

We might have gotten a bit silly...

Another great neighborhood event - dressed up Characters at various locations around the neighborhood.  We took the car out and drove around to see them all.

Decorate your own brownie bite night was a hit.

A huge (but remote) Thank you for teacher appreciation week!

Easter in Quarantine

Thursday, April 16, 2020

Even the Easter Bunny had to follow social distancing guidelines this year.  So, instead of coming around and hiding eggs in the yard that could then have germs brought into the house, the Easter Bunny left the filled eggs by the front door and left some bunny tracks to boot.  The girls then proceeded to have an indoor egg hunt - which is really nothing new for them as they have had egg hunts in hotel rooms around the world.  Afterward, we went outside to see the Bunny herself drive by in a golf cart provided by our neighbors.  All in all, not a bad way to spend Easter - though we did miss having Nana and Grampa here.

Bits and Bobs - Safer at Home Edition

Tuesday, April 14, 2020

Spring Break is over and we are still under Safer at Home orders.  But it doesn't mean we aren't trying to throw in some fun between our school days.  Which is now done from the dining room table and a desk in the closet under the stairs.  I continue to just try to keep us all sane :)  Stay safe and healthy everyone.

Day 1 of the virtual school.  Or as I like to call it Corona Elemiddle School.

And I sew masks next to MadHatter as she studies.

And evidently, she got a little distracted during her studies.

MadHatters best friend lives about 7 houses down from us.  They haven't seen each other in real life for a long while so they went outside and waved from an acceptable social distance.

Our neighborhood is pretty awesome.  One of the neighbors arranged for the Chik-fil-A truck to come for a social distance lunch.  With all restaurants closed to everything but take away, this was a nice diversion.

Clearest my calendar has ever been.

Wearing all of the blues for National Autism Day (this is the new school dress code)

After a hard day at school.

National Siblings day obligatory photo.  And a senior photo of support.

MadHatter diamond painting.  It looks so good.

A lot of baking going on around here...

And a lot of mask making...with great helpers.
