Week Before Break Craziness

Friday, December 20, 2019

What is with schools making EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. the week before break a special one?  Throw in all the stuff their extracurricular activities plan, a field trip, run of the mill meetings and everyday life and sprinkle it all with trying to get the Christmas magic done.  I'm a bit over it, if I am honest and super ready to be taking the next 2 weeks off.  Until then, a short recap of the bigger events that happened this week... (the rest just made the Bits and Bobs post).

We started the week with a visit from Nana and Grampa.  They were heading out to Colorado and wanted to leave ChaCha here with our pets since they were flying out of Fort Lauderdale anyway.  After Stinkerbell finished with gymnastics practice, we headed to dinner and then the Tradewinds Holiday Fantasy of Lights.  It is 3 miles of giant, animated light displays that you drive through.  We tried to make it last year but somehow ran out of time.  Since dinner was just down the road we knew we had to stop by.

Cinderella's carriage pulled by a Unicorn?

We hurried home (a little underwhelmed with the lights) so that we could get Stinkerbell to bed because she had a big day on Tuesday - an all day field trip (who schedules a field trip the week before break???).  I love this one though and will always volunteer to chaperone it.  Stinkerbell's class has been working on real-life things for the past few weeks.  Things like working a job, earning their paycheck, learning to save some and spend some and in that regard, how to balance a checkbook.  And they wrap up all of the learning with a trip to JABiztown.

Biztown is a mock city with businesses, a police station, city hall, utility companies, a newspaper and radio station and so much more.  Each child is assigned a job, is given an iPad with instructions on how to do that job and then sets off to do it to the best of their ability for the next 4 hours.  As a volunteer, I was given a business and the 5 kids who worked there and was there to answer questions and keep them on task but mainly just to be there in case.  These kids really do it all.

Stinkerbell was super excited that she got picked to be working in the Humane Society adopting out animals and giving out information. I got to see her quite a bit that day because my store, BizFit, was right next door.  I got a few snaps but really didn't have a lot of free time because our business was heavy on traffic (a good thing).

Arriving (I had to be there 2 hours early for training even though I did it last year).

Stinkerbell and 108 of her closest friend (not all shown as they weren't all there yet).  And this doesn't include the 110 in the town next door from her grade.

 Ready to open for business.

 Pretty cool, huh?

Taking some time out of her day to vote.

I think it wore her out!

Wednesday was meetings and party set up and gymnastics and more meetings.  Nothing worth photographing.

Thursday - Party day at school!  After the last party, we decided to keep it a bit simpler - minute to win it games, a photo booth and a handpainted picture frame with the class picture added for fun.  I think they had a great time...

 Book exchange game.

First coat of paint and then some lunch...

Before hitting all of the games...(I only got photos of two because I was at the Photo Booth, where else?)

Where we had a ton of fun...

We rounded out the week of school activities with the Choral/Violin/Recorder/Bucket Drum concert Thursday evening.  Stinkerbell loves playing the bucket drums and I love watching her recital at the end of each semester.  We didn't have a very good vantage point last night but thankfully a friend was front row and sent me a few pictures...

My little drummer girl.

I promise Stinkerbell is in there but she is sitting on the floor in front of the director.  Every once in awhile you see her bun and face :)

Finally, it ended this morning with a PJ and Movie half-day at school.  Which I was more than happy to participate in because it meant one less thing to do this morning.

Even though school is out, Stinkerbell has a gymnastics meet tomorrow which means all day spent at the gym and then run home to pack as we head out for the holidays on Sunday.  Whew.  We could all use the break and can't wait to just sit back and relax a bit!
