Our last full day at Disneyworld and we chose to spend it at Epcot. As the girls have gotten older, it has become one of their favorites; mine too if truth be told. Once again, we stumbled into a Festival celebration - this time the Festival of the Arts. Which meant another scavenger hunt for the girls to complete. This time we had to find the famous paintings in each land that Fidget (the purple dragon mascot of Epcot) had painted himself into. But first, we needed to take care of getting MadHatters new ears monogrammed...
She is such a traditionalist.
Maps and stickers in hand, we set off in search of Fidget.
We didn't get far before we ran into the chalk artists that were finishing up their street drawings. I love the detail they can get from painting with chalk sticks.
And then we got sidetracked by this GIANT paint by numbers canvas that had just been started. Each person can get a small tub of paint and a brush and color in the corresponding squares. They limit you to about 5 each, so everyone gets a chance. We had gotten there early, so the canvas was almost entirely white still. We had no idea what we were painting, but it wouldn't take long before it started looking like something...(see the end of the post for what it looked like when we left).

We were on the hunt again and headed toward the U.K. We didn't have any idea what we were really looking for, or where but we just kept looking. If you remember our hunt for Remy (
click here to recap), we usually found him perched on the edge of a roof or near a rock outcropping. But paintings wouldn't look quite right in either of those places, so we just had to think harder. And then we stumbled upon the first one. It was hidden in a shop window in a back courtyard behind one of the shops. This was the first inkling that it was not going to be easy to find them all. But at least now we knew what to look for. Each of them would have a gold frame, they were roughly 24" x 36," and Fidget would be painted inside somehow.
We had to take a break because we had a FastPass for Test Track and it was getting to be close. We had never been before, and we didn't want to miss it, so we worked our way over to the queue. We did stop to take a quick snap with Venelope and Ralph though.
Verdict - thumbs up all around!
But we didn't have time to discuss it much because we were running super late for our lunch reservation at the Teppan grill. All the way over in Japan. Which was literally across the World Showcase. I have never seen the girls move so fast through a crowd.
We found our painting while we were there and then popped over to China to see that one also...
And then we started putting ourselves in the paintings instead of merely looking for them.
As Frida Kahlo
Crossing the Delaware River with Washington
As the Scream and American Gothic
And then it was back to painting hunts (with a ride or two in between). Finally, just as the sun was setting and it was getting even cooler than it already was, we found our final painting. Heading back to the store to turn our cards in for our prize, we passed by the mural we had helped paint just a few hours earlier. Remember how I told you it was pretty much a white canvas when we started. Well look at it only 7 hours later (and keep in mind that thing is HUGE).
It's a space theme. With Fidget, of course.
In keeping with the space theme, we stood on the landing of the launch pad for the space shuttle. How realistic is that 3D drawing?!?!
And we bid adieu to the giant golfball as Stinkerbell calls it.
We were tired and wind whipped and hungry. But we wouldn't trade it for the world. We had the best day together at Epcot!
